Troy Brown

4 November 2011

But Belichick did bring back Troy Brown for one last season in 2007.

Brown returned to New England on a one year contract at 36 years old. With Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth, and Jabar Gaffney on the roster, the Patriots didn’t need Brown, but Brown was brought back, as if it was a favor to Brown.

From left to right: Tedy Bruschi, Troy Brown, Bledsoe, Todd Rucci and Scott Zolak.

Extra Point: I’m happy to say I was at the game. If I remember correctly it was the first game I attended since the Patriots beat the Jacksonville Jaguars in the snow during their second Super Bowl season in 2003.

WR Deion Branch was brought back and paired with Wes Welker, just like when Branch and Troy Brown were Brady’s favorite targets. And RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis is the hard-nosed grinder like Antowain Smith and Corey Dillon were.

He will be remembered along with Tedy Bruschi, Troy Brown, and Willie McGinest. Though Vrabel isn’t a career Patriot like the three mentioned, but his do whatever it takes contribution with the Patriots is what Mike will be remembered for.

WR Troy Brown could get in as soon as 2012. Fan favorite LB Tedy Bruschi might walk in as soon as 2014.

The profile of the average voter is unknown, but surely the players fans watched for years will be favored over the players from another era.

It isn’t much different in the Patriots offense as Wes Welker, Troy Brown, and Deion Branch did it for the Pats over the years. Holt knows how to get open underneath and will run the routes as needed after reading the defense. And Tom Brady can be confident that Holt will make the catch because he still has two of the best hands in the league and Holt won’t flinch to make the catch, even with a defender barring down to deliver a hit.

yton, or someone else, can do the job better than Bruschi.

After the 2007 season, receiver Troy Brown was a free agent with the option of continuing his career. If he did so, it wasn’t going to be with the Patriots as Belichick had already replaced Brown following an injury-marred season that allowed Troy to play in just one game.

Can Troy Brown still play?

We'll hear soon enough what's up with Wheatley. But he misses any time, the dwindling secondary will really be hurting.

Never gives up. A clutch player in big games. Willing to do anything to help the team win.

Troy Brown was a true definition of what a Patriot was before they became the franchise everyone loves to hate today. Overachiever? An eighth-round draft pick in 1993 who became the team's all-time leader in receptions. Never gives up? He was cut by then-head coach Bill Parcells before hooking back up with the Pats for good. Willing to do anything? Even as a full-time receiver, he played special teams and was a excellent punt returner. He even switched to defense and played cornerback.

All we know is former NE receiver Troy Brown will make an announcement tomorrow.

He will hold a 10 AM press conference at Gillette Stadium Thursday. Will he announce his retirement? Is he signing on as a player/coach? Will he host a Bingo tournament to fill the void created by the bye week? Has he reached an agreement to open a big and tall retail store inside Patriot Place, a.k.a. Kraft City?

Just ask Troy Brown.

One last thing. I expected the Patriots to keep five running backs and we will see the value of that depth in game one. Kevin Faulk will be suspended for game one for bei

uis and Philadelphia (w/Terrell Owens) using players like Randall Gay, Earthwind Moreland, and even Troy Brown (wide receiver/return man/cornerback). What people used to love about the Patriots was the way they won as a team. Every victory was a labor of toughness and grit, every defensive stand coming from sheer force of will rather than large contract stars. The Pats ground down their opponents. Offense wasn't about long bombs to Randy Moss, it was about small short range passes to everyone on the offense (David Givens, David Patten, Deion Branch, Christian Fauria) and tough short runs by Kevin Faulk and Antowain Smith.  Defense was about big plays when they counted. Ty Law getting four interceptions against Peyton Manning in a snow storm.

hat beat teams with players like Randall Gay (undrafted), Earthwind Moreland (practice player), and Troy Brown (veteran wide receiver) on defense. They weren't the best players, they weren't the fastest or the strongest, but they played hard and found ways to win (say, for example, by stopping the Colts four times on the goal line with seconds left in the game).

his role, the physical part should come easy.

One person the Pats can't turn to for depth is Troy Brown. As we already know, the Patriots said they wouldn't offer him a contract at the time. Brown has visited the Jets recently and it might not just be to rankle Pats head coach Bill Belichick.
