I can understand Wilfork’s frustrations as he sees teammates getting richer while his situation remains in limbo, but I remain optimistic that a deal will get done. It’s possible the other moves will clear the path for Wilfork’s negotiations to get moving again.

Most likely Belichick would use a heavy line (Seymour, Brace, Wilfork, and Pryor like last week) for run and switching out ends for pass rushers.

Pass Rush – Rob Ninkovich got good pressure against second and third units. What will he do against better competition? Tully Banta-Cain and Myron Pryor got a sack each.

What I’m hoping for is that safety/linebacker Tank Williams stays healthy and contributes for the Patriots. He lived up to his name in his years with Tennessee and hopefully Tank, now fully recovered from a season-ending preseason injury last year, makes an impact, literally and figuratively.

The competition at safety could become even more interesting if Tank Williams makes a full recovery and retuns to action. During the preseason the 6-2 220-pounder played close to the line a lot in a S/LB hybrid role. If he's back, the safety position becomes a huge strength for the Patriots.

So where does this leave Seau? He hasn't made a decision, but head coach Bill Belichick said Junior's decision won't come until just before training camp. Thus far, Seau's number 55 isn't being worn by anybody and it will be reserved until either Seau comes back or never worn again as it should be retired for former Pat Willie McGinest after he hangs it up after this season.
