Stephen Gostkowski

4 February 2012

the remaining eight (Tom Brady, Logan Mankins, Matt Light, Kevin Faulk, Wes Welker, Vince Wilfork, Stephen Gostkowski, and Ross Ventrone) are fueled by revenge. They can pass the experience on to their teammates, but the teammates can’t feel it because they didn’t live through it. It has to belong to the individuals. The experience isn’t transferable.

1. DT Vince Wilfork was in beast mode all afternoon. Six tackles and a sack doesn’t begin to explain his influence on the game. Wilfork had at three tackles for a loss and his share of pressure on QB Joe Flacco. It was a dominant performance by a team leader showing what it takes to get to a Super Bowl. It was arguably Wilfork’s best game in the biggest game of the year.

And against Oakland, two first down receptions on the same drive set up a Stephen Gostkowski 44-yard field goal.

Compare that to Haynesworth’s three tackles in six games and Ochocinco obviously has done more than Haynesworth.

New England’s special teams with second year long snapper Jake Ingram and fourth year kicker Stephen Gostkowski already in place.

Mesko would learn how to hold for Gostkowski, without previous experience for Mesko. I was curious to see the three learn to work together. Did they have to develop chemistry? How long does that take? How much instruction did Gostkowski give Mesko about how he likes the ball positioned? Did Ingram have to get a feel for where Mesko likes the ball catching for punts as opposed to catching for field goals? Does timing come into play?

free agents, six I absolutely wanted back: LB Tully Banta-Cain, CB Leigh Bodden, RB Kevin Faulk, K Stephen Gostkowski, OG Logan Mankins, and NT Vince Wilfork. Of those six, three re-signed. And OG Stephen Neal re-signed as well, which is a bonus.

ning Banta-Cain and Wilfork, that leaves five I hope go nowhere: CB Leigh Bodden, RB Kevin Faulk, K Stephen Gostkowski, G Logan Mankins, and G Stephen Neal. As for everyone else (DE/LB Derrick Burgess, DE Jarvis Green, P Chris Hanson, LB Pierre Woods, RB Chris Taylor, and TE Ben Waston; LB Junior Seau retired) , the Pats can do better, although I would make an exception for Green.

ought must go into what to do with the remaining free agents though:

Restricted

K Stephen Gostkowski – A young, accurate kicker with a strong leg and a Pro Bowl under his belt should be back. By virtue of the position he plays, he won’t be too expensive to keep.

And WR Julian Edelman had his first two touchdown game in his career.

5. Even kicker Stephen Gostkowski made a miscue. Before his fourth quarter miss on a 44-yard field goal, Gostkwoski hit his last 32 kicks in the fourth quarter. That streak included extra points.

two things to think about: New England beat the Buffalo Bills in the season opener by one point and Stephen Gostkowski’s fourth quarter field goal put Baltimore down by six, forcing the Ravens to go for a game-winning touchdown instead of a game-tying field goal.

It was the first time since week 15 of 2008 that K Stephen Gostkowski didn’t attempt a field goal. That was a 49-26 win over Oakland. Gostkowski has five other games in which he didn’t kick a field goal. All wins. Good trend.

ful day in March.

But, as always, Bill Belichick had a plan.

Some called taking Memphis kicker Stephen Gostkowski in the fourth round of the 2006 draft a reach. Sure, he had the strongest leg in the draft but taking a kicker that high? He might not even beat Martin Gramatica out of training camp.

Looks like it's paying off.

Maybe lost in the mis-match between two quarterbacks is the job by K Stephen Gostkowski. His kickoffs were booming! All six reached the endzone and only one was returned. New York's field position suffered thanks to Gostkowski. Every drive the Jets started after receiving the kickoff started at the 20. And he was perfect on four field goals.
