Shawn Springs

3 October 2010

hings I’m looking for:

Not Springs Fault: WR Brandon Marshall had his way against CB Shawn Springs last year as a Denver Bronco. New team for Marshall. Will he have a new victim?

No so in the secondary. Surprisingly, CB Shawn Springs was released on Tuesday.

Springs was signed for three years last year, but the Pats decided to clear the path for the young corners to compete for playing time.

3 January 2010

The pass rush and secondary were great the past two weeks. Some say CB Shawn Springs and SS James Sanders in the starting lineup has solidified the secondary. The best way to know for sure is seeing how they fare against a top-five offense. If the defense can keep QB Matt Schaub under control and contain WR Andre Johnson, then we know for sure if the defense really is playing better.

Two Points: The win clinched the Patriots seventh AFC East title in nine years...CB Shawn Springs had his first interception as a Patriot. It was his 33rd career pick.Questions?

The secondary had a few familiar faces back. CB Shawn Springs played and CB Jonathan Wilhite and S James Sanders both returned to the starting lineup. On offense WR Julian Edelman and OT Sebastian Vollmer returned to action as well.

New England signed free agent veteran cornerbacks Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden. Miami went the younger route and drafted Vonta Davis and Sean Smith.

on paper to be an improved backfield.

Even though he was beat for a touchdown, overall CB Shawn Springs had a very good game. He was impressive in the second half as he made some great plays in coverage.

, right?

Shortly after the Patriots signed veteran CBs Leigh Bodden (6’1”) and Shawn Springs (6’0”), I couldn’t help but notice their size and how they didn’t fit the profile of the typical Pats corner. So I did some research.

quo;Neal), the Pats again addressed the problem area by drafting Darius Butler and signing veterans Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden.

The results so far: Zero interceptions.

That doesn’t mean they are doing a poor job. They did fine against Buffalo. And with the exception of Wilhite being targeted in the second half, the secondary has been mostly solid.

e on their toes.

A few things I’m looking for:

Terrell Owens vs…: CB Shawn Springs was signed, in part, for his ability to cover Owens one-on-one. Springs barely played in the preseason. Will he be ready Monday and can he be counted on every week?

To upgrade the secondary, veteran CBs Leigh Bodden and Shawn Springs were added. Safety Brandon McGowan was a late addition after two rookies, CB Darius Butler and S Pat Chung, were drafted with plans to develop them for down the road.

n win.

A party of five corners will fight for two starting positions: veteran free agentss Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden, 2008 draft picks Terrance Wheatley and Jonathan Wilhite, and 2009 draft pick Darius Butler. The early favorites probably are the veterans, but the pups will be on heels of Springs and Bodden, angling to snag a role in the secondary.

No offense, but I feel the coaching staff will start veteran free agent acquisitions Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden. There’s nothing wrong with a one-year apprenticeship, Darius.

While the additions of free agent cornerbacks Leigh Bodden and Shawn Springs more than makes up for the lack of experience, The question is how much does Springs have left? He was released by Washington in the off-season. Are the Redskins right in believing Springs is done, or is Shawn still effective?

But the two corners caught my attention.

The first signing was Shawn Springs from Washington. Recently Leigh Bodden from Detroit was added to the roster. What stands out about the pair is they stand taller than the corners currently on the roster.

starting role from the incumbents, the secondary needs help.

My idea of help wasn’t Shawn Springs. The 12-year veteran, recently released by the Washington Redskins, signed with the Pats last week. With all due respect, I know the sport is best played by players younger than the 34-year old Springs.
