By season’s end, it was obvious the Patriots had to re-stock the backfield. Veterans Kevin Faulk, Sammy Morris, Fred Taylor, and BenJarvus Green-Ellis were all free agents with Green-Ellis, the leading rusher, expected to be back.

Miami is blessed to have the tandem of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams sharing carries. 

And the men leading the offensive huddles both have Wolverines roots. Other teams tried to find the next Tom Brady before. Miami is the closest so far with Chad Henne. He looks to be following in Brady’s footsteps, something Drew Henson and John Navarre couldn’t do.

2009’s best run offense in the New York Jets, have to wrangle Miami’s Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, and control Buffalo’s triple threat of Fred Jackson, Marshawn Lynch, and the explosive rookie C.J. Spiller. The Patriots will have their work cut out for them for those six games.

Absent from the buildup for this divisional match-up between the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots has been a bulletin board quote from the irascible Joey Porter. 

The outside linebacker, who’s never at a loss for words, hasn’t said anything to rile up the Pats. That’s understandable, considering QB Tom Brady said after the last game between the teams that Porter’s statement of genuine hate between the players inspired the Pats.

The combo of RBs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams trumps the Jets' backfield, but Miami's receivers aren't as accomplished as New York's. Ernest Wilford is a big possession target at 6-5, but isn't a deep threat. Ted Ginn Jr. is still raw as a receiver, but at least he has deep speed. That will come in handy with a quarterback that lacks the arm strength to throw long.
