The Fall is coming and the season is starting. It's a great time to be in New England.

For those teams drooling over McFadden (hello Dallas?), New England taking a closer look at Darren quickens the heart rate of the teams in love with Run DMc.

Maybe the same can be said about the Keith Rivers visit.

The most intriguing of the three is Flowers because he sounds like he would fit seamlessly into the New England secondary. Scouting reports say he plays great in zone schemes and has solid ball skills.

In today's Boston Globe, they reported New England worked out Auburn's Quentin Groves. He's a former defensive end that moved to outside linebacker for the Tigers and is rated by The Sporting News as the second best outside linebacker in this year draft and is considered by many as the best pure pass rusher.

es feel like when the Patriots signed Duane Starks? Remember he was a good corner for Baltimore and New England gave him good money after Ty Law signed a lucrative deal with the New York Jets.

Earlier I heard they are interested in Vanderbilt's Jonathan Goff.

While many people believe New England will draft a corner if they don't trade down, I disagreed. Sure they lost two corners in Asante Samuel and Randall Gay, as well as safety Eugene Wilson, but I found it hard to ignore the age factor as well as the lack of depth at the linebacker position.

Remember, the Jets are a pick ahead of New England and need to improve a pass rush that had just 29 sacks last year. DE/LB Shawn Ellis tied for the team lead in sacks with five. The other guy was David Harris, an inside linebacker! That's not supposed to happen in a 3-4 defense.

He could see the passes he didn't get in New England. Donte' could have a big year while running routes with receiver Braylon Edwards and tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. And with the Browns re-signing QB Derek Anderson, the offense could be better than last year.

Today the Patriots signed free agent linebacker T.J. Slaughter. A journeyman LB originally signed by Jacksonville in the 3rd round of the 2000 draft. He played sparingly until Jack Del Rio cut him

That is definitely a good deal for New England. Detractors will say that he is aging (31 is old?) and that he is slowing down. To those detractors you can say the 10% off is for depreciation . If the Patriots decide to franchise Randy, then he will get the average of the top five receivers and that would be approximately 7.7 million. Why risk the alienating a known sensitive receiver by franchising when you could sign him to a three year deal that is clause laden to protect the Patriots from any unseen age related breakdown. I still believe that there are plenty of examples of older receivers excelling ( Joey Galloway) . Finally, Randy and Tom have a good working chemistry, why upset the apple cart . It is a distinct possibility that the Patriots don’t make the Superbowl without Randy , since the offense was a much a part of the defense as was any of the linebackers or defensive backs.

Sunday night after the biggest choke in recent memory I noticed a general depression had settled over my social network. The guys who I would classify as stoic working class men where completely in denial. They refused to put the news on televisions and would not pull up and of the most popular sport websites as if by not acknowledging the loss would make the hurt go away. We all got so emotionally involved that it was like watching our best friend get married only to be stood up on the altar . We all saw it happen, but we all pretend it didn’t so both our friends shame and our own are not brought to light.

y on to slow the pace of the game and see what their running attack can accomplish against an aging New England linebacking corps. Given the fact that I do not like either team at all, I would at least like to see a competitive contest. So I'm using the premise that the Giants win the toss and at least keep the game competitive in the early stages.

eek in an aircast for his high ankle sprain and did not participate in practice on Thursday for the New England Patriots. What does this all mean? The only thing it might mean is that you don't take the Patriots giving the points for the big game. Any Pats fan knows already they haven't covered a line in weeks and haven't covered a Super Bowl line since they were getting points from the St. Louis Rams and beat his holiness Kurt Warner straight up anyways.
