A player that became so hated that his teammates wouldn’t support him isn’t a player I want polluting the noble Patriots locker room.

Mike Shanahan, Mike Holmgren, and Bill Cowher all have impressive resumes, but it is Shanahan that makes Belichick nervous.

The crystal ball had a mediocre performance this past week, going a mere 2-2. This is playoff time, so that is unacceptable! The crystal ball took its lumps on the Colts game, but it’s okay with it since Norv’s our buddy! Anyway, that puts the crystal ball at 2-2 for the post-season, and 35-28-1 overall. That’s seven games over .500 (.555 to be exact). Hopefully the crystal ball will perform better this coming week, as the pressure mounts in post-season play! Let’s take a look back, and review what happened last week.

Talking about keeping an eye on, all of Patriot Nation watched very closely LB Jerod Mayo in his first preseason game and came away impressed. Excuse me, blown away. The loved the big hit he gave Baltimore running back Ray Rice that knocked off Rice's helmet. Every tackle was explosive. Heck, even when he didn't make a play, it was a good thing. Based on reaction, just five days after LB Andre Tippett became a Hall of Famer, the next great Patriot linebacker to receive that honor will be Mayo.

I know I don't have video to base this opinion, but I do trust that Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan knows what he's doing. Last year, Shanahan had turned Lynch into a part-time player, pulling the nine-time Pro Bowler off the field in passing situations. During training camp, Shanahan continued the practice, never having Lynch on the field for nickel or dime packages. Shanahan has come to the conclusion that Lynch is a liability in pass coverage and I trust Shanahan's logic not just because he's on his 14th season with Denver and won two Super Bowls, but because he gives the Patriots fits whenever the teams play head-to-head.
