Matt Light

rsquo;t feel the burning desire for revenge.

Maybe the remaining eight (Tom Brady, Logan Mankins, Matt Light, Kevin Faulk, Wes Welker, Vince Wilfork, Stephen Gostkowski, and Ross Ventrone) are fueled by revenge. They can pass the experience on to their teammates, but the teammates can’t feel it because they didn’t live through it. It has to belong to the individuals. The experience isn’t transferable.

Opposite Cannon was Nate Solder, playing left tackle in place of Matt Light, who was injured earlier in the game. Might this be a glimpse of the future Patriots O-line?

2. Also seeing his first career action was RB Shane Vereen. He had eight carries for 39 yards and his first career touchdown. It was a good debut for the rookie after being sidetracked by a hamstring injury. Included in his evening was a nifty 19-yard scamper. Hopefully we see more of Vereen and fellow rookie RB Stevan Ridley as the season winds down, even if it is in garbage time.

15 October 2011

After the lockout ended, New England re-signed LT Matt Light and LG Logan Mankins.

Through five games New England’s rush offense ranks sixth in the NFL with 128.6 yards per game. What’s encouraging is the production is getting better, even without C Dan Koppen. Dan Connolly slid over from RG into Koppen’s spot and G Brian Waters, a free agent signed after Koppen’s injury, keeps the unit humming.

Matt Light knows he’s there. You can’t miss the shadow of a 6-8 319 pound man-child standing behind you.

Light is the Patriots’ starting left tackle. For now. He’s expected to hold on to that position through the rest of the season. If Light is lucky, he keeps the job through next season as well. But Light knows his days are numbered.

The offensive line is a question mark, even after re-signing LT Matt Light and LG Logan Mankins.

The unit was awarded the Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award last year for allowing 25 sacks in the regular season, third fewest in the NFL. They’ve been far from formidable in the playoffs, as they allowed 13 sacks in the last three postseason losses.

Give the offensive line an alibi: OG Dan Connolly played part of the game hurt or it was LT Matt Light’s first game back. It doesn’t erase the fact that the Patriots were manhandled all night long.

en years.

The most encouraging sign is rookie first round pick Nate Solder has played in place of Matt Light at left tackle and looked very good. Solder’s pass blocking gets more attention (because he must protect reigning NFL MVP, quarterback Tom Brady), but he’s a better run blocker right now.

6 August 2011

While Solder waited for his contract negotiations, Matt Light was re-signed, holding on to the left tackle position for up to two more years.

The running back competition looked like a free for all by the time Vereen and Ridley were drafted. Now they find themselves behind veterans BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Kevin Faulk, and Sammy Morris. All three were free agents, but only Green-Ellis was a lock to return.

RG Stephen Neal retired, LT Matt Light is a free agent, and Pro Bowl LG Logan Mankins is hoping a win in the Brady vs. the NFL lawsuit breaks the franchise tag chains and makes him a free agent.

But when an injury sidelined starting left tackle Matt Light later that season, Vollmer was able to step in for Light as a rookie. Vollmer was so good, in fact, people thought Vollmer should replace Light and move the veteran to right tackle. Vollmer started 16 games last year at right tackle.

Change could come to the offensive line, whether they find improvements or if LT Matt Light and LG Logan Mankins leave as free agents.

Bill Belichick can’t help but notice what crippled his offense three years straight. Hopefully Bill is not too proud to borrow from successful game plans and add an OLB that can rush the passer. Belichick’s first desire is an OLB that can hold the edge on run downs and make tackles for loss.

t return, whether it was the team’s decision or the player follows a better opportunity.

LT Matt Light and LG Logan Mankins will be unrestricted free agents. Do you think both will be back? I doubt it. Either Mankins takes the money and runs or the Pats believe Sebastian Vollmer can do Light’s job better, the left side of the O-line will change.

LT Matt Light doesn’t handle speed rushers well. It’s worth a shot for Maybin.

Run Circles Around the Wagons: Buffalo has the worst rush defense in the league, allowing 158.6 yards per game. A career day for Benny?

New England took LT Matt Light in the second round in 2001. The Dolphins wasted no time and made Jake Long the first pick overall in 2008. Miami’s O-line has balance between youth and veterans just like New England did.

OT Sebastian Vollmer was thrust into a starting role after Matt Light went down with an injury.

It’s an understatement to say Vollmer handled himself well. He got the better of some well known pass rushers in his three starts at left tackle. He nullified Tennessee’s Kyle Vanden Bosch in a snowy Gillette Stadium. Most recently Vollmer shut out loudmouth Joey Porter, keeping Miami’s OLB from registering a sack or a tackle.

RBs Fred Taylor and Sammy Morris will get closer to returning to action, as will LT Matt Light. QB Tom Brady might have his hands full, thanks to his wife Gisele (lucky), but I’m sure he’ll sneak in extra work to fine tune his game.

Unfortunately he had just as many receptions.

Hopefully LT Matt Light is alright because once he went down, an offense that was struggling in the second half pretty much died as the offense played cautiously pretty much the rest of the way.

a league elite player. So that eliminates RB Kevin Faulk, G Stephen Neal, and LT Matt Light, even with his two Pro Bowl selections.

So with all the turnover on the roster, who becomes the new core of the team? Brady is a given. Offensively we’ve seen the skill players change through the Championships so I’m not including WRs Randy Moss and Wes Welker because the Pats won with Troy Brown and David Patten before. Running back didn’t matter either, as New England upgraded from Antowain Smith to Corey Dillon.

(10th), and San Diego (11th).

Notice a pattern?

The starting offensive line of LT Matt Light, LG Logan Mankins, C Dan Koppen, RG Stephen Neal and RT Nick Kaczur have been together long enough to develop the continuity needed to become cohesive. And if Pro Bowl selections mean anything (Light 2006 and 2007, Mankins in 2007), then there are quality players on the line.

vanize a fractured offensive line that allowed 20 sacks in five games.

With RT Nick Kaczur and LT Matt Light hurting, Ross and OT Mark LeVoir likely have to replace the corners of the line. These changes force New England's hand, but at the same time, maybe it's best that something is done. If, by chance, they find a combination that works better than the status quo, then by all means stick with it. The team stands at 3-2 and it is easy to lose ground quickly.

I'm starting to think he better sit this one out because he won't be safe in the pocket.

Both LT Matt Light and RG Stephen Neal were not seen at today's practice. Reserves Ryan O'Callaghan, Billy Yates and Russ Hochstein also didn't make an appearance. That means another patchwork O-line for Friday night's game.

bad, why did they give up just 21 sacks? The Pats didn't have the league's best offense in spite of Matt Light, Logan Mankins, Dan Koppen, Stephen Neal, and Nick Kaczur. Quarterback Tom Brady doesn't throw 50 touchdowns without time in the pocket.
