This was bound to happen.

For the second week in a row, QB Matt Cassel threw for 400 yards and three touchdowns. This from a guy that looked so bad against San Diego that practically all fans were calling for his head. Now Cassel is at the head of the class as every Pats fans' favorite player. It's at the point that now people think New England should re-sign Cassel and trade Tom Brady.

and the defense made it hold.

What we saw on Sunday was the guy that backed-up Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC. Cassel competed with both of them to be the starter in two defferent seasons. But in close competitions according to Trojans coach and former Patriots coach Pete Carroll, Cassel came up short both times.

he should. For a player that USC head coach Pete Carroll said barely lost the starting job to Matt Leinart while in college, Cassel doesn't look like starting material.

Granted he was better last night. He led a couple of good drives, but penalties killed drives that Cassel led deep into Philadelphia territory. But one game doesn't make up for the total preseason or his years in the league. Cassel should be a lot better going into his fourth year.
