Logan Mankins

4 February 2012

the team doesn’t feel the burning desire for revenge.

Maybe the remaining eight (Tom Brady, Logan Mankins, Matt Light, Kevin Faulk, Wes Welker, Vince Wilfork, Stephen Gostkowski, and Ross Ventrone) are fueled by revenge. They can pass the experience on to their teammates, but the teammates can’t feel it because they didn’t live through it. It has to belong to the individuals. The experience isn’t transferable.

27 December 2011

LT Matt Light was scratched from the game minutes before kickoff. LG Logan Mankins slid over to fill the spot and reserve Donald Thomas stepped in for Mankins. When Mankins went down with a knee injury, rookie Nate Solder flipped from right tackle to left and Marcus Cannon, another rookie, took over on the right side. It wasn’t a smooth transition, as QB Tom Brady was sacked three times in the first half, but Scarnecchia’s half time adjustments led to one sack allowed and 86 of the team’s 119 rushing yards. Patriots fans should be Tebowing in honor of Scarnecchia. Eh…on second thought…maybe not. But coach Scar deserves praise from Patriot Nation.

15 October 2011

After the lockout ended, New England re-signed LT Matt Light and LG Logan Mankins.

Through five games New England’s rush offense ranks sixth in the NFL with 128.6 yards per game. What’s encouraging is the production is getting better, even without C Dan Koppen. Dan Connolly slid over from RG into Koppen’s spot and G Brian Waters, a free agent signed after Koppen’s injury, keeps the unit humming.

on the ground when the offense needs it.

Those failures aren’t solely Light’s fault. Logan Mankins was voted a First Team All-Pro last year. With these two veterans leading the charge, there’s no excuse for the blockers being blown off the line by the Bills defense on all three attempts.

The offensive line is a question mark, even after re-signing LT Matt Light and LG Logan Mankins.

The unit was awarded the Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award last year for allowing 25 sacks in the regular season, third fewest in the NFL. They’ve been far from formidable in the playoffs, as they allowed 13 sacks in the last three postseason losses.

Left guard Logan Mankins, who held himself out for the first six weeks of 2010 over the lack of a contract extension, was made the highest paid guard in the NFL and is locked up for seven years.

Marcus Cannon slid further back with All-Pro guard Logan Mankins re-signed.

LB Markell Carter has practically no chance at seeing the field as a project out of Central Arkansas. QB Ryan Mallett’s only hope is garbage time in blowouts. DB Malcolm Williams’ best shot is making it on special teams.

RG Stephen Neal retired, LT Matt Light is a free agent, and Pro Bowl LG Logan Mankins is hoping a win in the Brady vs. the NFL lawsuit breaks the franchise tag chains and makes him a free agent.

Change could come to the offensive line, whether they find improvements or if LT Matt Light and LG Logan Mankins leave as free agents.

Bill Belichick can’t help but notice what crippled his offense three years straight. Hopefully Bill is not too proud to borrow from successful game plans and add an OLB that can rush the passer. Belichick’s first desire is an OLB that can hold the edge on run downs and make tackles for loss.

1 January 2011

it was the team’s decision or the player follows a better opportunity.

LT Matt Light and LG Logan Mankins will be unrestricted free agents. Do you think both will be back? I doubt it. Either Mankins takes the money and runs or the Pats believe Sebastian Vollmer can do Light’s job better, the left side of the O-line will change.

New Faces: WR Santonio Holmes, OLB Calvin Pace, WR Deion Branch, RB Danny Woodhead, and G Logan Mankins didn’t play in the first game. They can be difference-makers.

Insult to Injury: S Jim Leonard broke his leg on Friday. Show no sympathy and go after his back-up with the tight ends.

Uh-oh Line: This is a huge challenge for the offensive line as they play without G Logan Mankins. How well they hold off the blitz-happy attack will say how much they miss the two-time Pro Bowler.

18 August 2010

If I’m G Logan Mankins watching the game from home, I felt my footing slip a little bit. Dan Connolly and the first string offensive line did a good job keeping the blitzing Saints off of QB Tom Brady and opening holes for the running game.

squo;s what I’ll be looking for Thursday night:

Who starts: LG is up in the air with Logan Mankins holding out and Nick Kaczur injured. With one OLB spot an open competition, who plays with the first unit could indicate who’s in the lead. Will ILB Gary Guyton play alongside Jerod Mayo or has Brandon Spikes already nudged the Georgia Tech product aside? We’ll see if S Pat Chung can take the first step toward warding off challengers James Sanders and Brandon McGowan. And if WR Wes Welker sits this one out, who is the back-up plan?

28 July 2010

Brandon seems like the bigger threat and could demote Guyton.

New A-line-ment: I doubt G Logan Mankins attends camp from day one. That’s not good for an O-line that has a lot of room for improvement. Even though they allowed just 18 sacks, good for third fewest in the league, the overall play was disappointing as Brady took a pounding last year. Opponents came after Brady, confident he didn’t have the mobility of past years following major knee surgery in 2008. Defenses will keep coming this year now that the offensive line appears to have a few cracks along the wall.

I thought Logan Mankins was going to be different. I believed he could conduct his contract negotiations privately. Because he kept a low profile after the season and through the draft, I figured Mankins would continue to keep his distance from the Patriots and let his agent and New England hammer out a new deal.

Jahri Evans’ new contract, understand a smile of equal distance stretched across the face of Logan Mankins’ agent Frank Bauer.

In case you missed it, before the Lawrence Taylor arrest and JaMarcus Russell’s release (talk about polar opposite stories – Taylor goes to a New York prison while Russell gets out of Oakland, which replicates the depressing hopelessness found behind bars), the Saints agreed to pay Evans $56.7 million over seven years, the biggest contract in NFL history for a guard.

31 March 2010

Like dinner with Tebow, these visits could mean something, or could mean nothing.

OG Logan Mankins voiced his disappointment with being tendered and ignored by New England. It’s understandable because he wants his future secured by a new lucrative contract. But the Pats put other priorities before him. For now, Mankins isn’t working out with the team. He will get his, but it’s looking like Mankins will have to wait until after the draft before negotiations begin.

As for everyone else (DE/LB Derrick Burgess, DE Jarvis Green, P Chris Hanson, LB Pierre Woods, RB Chris Taylor, and TE Ben Waston; LB Junior Seau retired) , the Pats can do better, although I would make an exception for Green.

20 January 2010

By virtue of the position he plays, he won’t be too expensive to keep.

OG Logan Mankins – His reputation is growing, as evidenced by his second Pro Bowl selection. He doesn’t seem like a guy that wants top dollar. If he’s willing to accept a below market value contract (that’s just the Patriot Way), he will remain between LT Matt Light and C Dan Koppen.

Diego (11th).

Notice a pattern?

The starting offensive line of LT Matt Light, LG Logan Mankins, C Dan Koppen, RG Stephen Neal and RT Nick Kaczur have been together long enough to develop the continuity needed to become cohesive. And if Pro Bowl selections mean anything (Light 2006 and 2007, Mankins in 2007), then there are quality players on the line.

they give up just 21 sacks? The Pats didn't have the league's best offense in spite of Matt Light, Logan Mankins, Dan Koppen, Stephen Neal, and Nick Kaczur. Quarterback Tom Brady doesn't throw 50 touchdowns without time in the pocket.
