Lewis Sanders

ey Harrision and CB Terrance Wheatley) or just overall lack of ability (CBs Deltha O’Neal and Lewis Sanders), New England’s secondary was repeatedly picked apart.

In hopes of improving corner play, N.E. signed CBs Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden. They will also hope a year of experience for Wheatley and Jonathan Wilhite makes a positive difference. And of course New England just drafted Darius Butler.

l with Arizona's wide outs with safety Brandon Merriweather moving outside and the versatile 6-1 DB Lewis Sanders getting up close and personal in bump and run.

But the bottom line is this is a mismatch. 'Zona's receiving corps reminds me of San Diego because they have size and speed. Looking back to that week six beating, there was nothing the Patriots could do to stop the 6-5 Vincent Jackson. Even with good coverage on him, Jackson was able to reach over the defender and make plays. Jackson finished with 134 yards and a touchdown, Phillip Rivers topped 300 yards passing, New England barely pressured Rivers, and couldn't sack him either.

wing at Bills DT Marcus Stroud all afternoon to tire him would be valuable.

CB Terrence Wheatley, Lewis Sanders -They're not household names, but depth in the defensive backfield is an issue. The Patriots were interested in DeAngelo Hall for a reason. It's possible that Ellis Hobbs won't play as well, meaning a secondary already stretched thin is extended a little more. Will this the point where the secondary finally snaps?

We saw last week Ellis Hobbs fall hard on his shoulder. He needed to be helped off the field. Lewis Sanders has been in and out of the lineup. And Deltha O'Neal suffered a concussion. If they have to reach for help, they could turn to WR/S Matt Slater, but he was out this week as well. Can Troy Brown still play?

Hobbs didn't practice this week, and neither did reserve DB Lewis Sanders. The Colts on the other hand exchange corners, as Marlin Jackson was placed on IR while Kelvin Hayden appears ready to return to action.

But Bryant didn't show enough, yet Lewis Sanders made the roster. I didn't notice Sanders, but it's not just what they do in games, the performance during camp matters as well. There's a good chance something we didn't see was the difference, though I do think the fact that former Patriots defensive coordinator and current Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel coached Sanders for a couple of years. If Crennel praised Sanders in a conversation with New England head coach Bill Belichick, those words carry a lot of value to Belichick.

And free agents Fernando Bryant and Lewis Sanders are crafty veterans that lack elite credentials, but can get the job done. The Pats haven't given up on Mike Richardson either. Maybe Ty Law is on head coach Bill Belichick's speed dial.

This injury would benefit a player on the bubble. It gives someone like Lewis Sanders (two passes defensed) a better chance of making the team.

O-line: They had a rough time against an aggressive defensive front. They allowed six sacks and did a poor job handling the blitz. Playing without three starters probably played a role in the performance.

One of the free agent CBs signed (the others being Lewis Sanders and Jason Webster) will make the team and the early favorite is Bryant.

One change I didn't make was leaving Sanders as the st

Terrence Wheatley, second year Mike Richardson, and free agents Fernando Bryant, Jason Webster, and Lewis Sanders.

Is it really as simple as plugging in the holes? It's very possible that Ellis Hobbs gets switched over from RCB to LCB. The left corner typically covers the opponent's primary receiver, the toughest assignment. I can't imagine that head coach Bill Belichick would start a rookie right out of training camp on the most dangerous receiver.

He joins Jason Webster and Lewis Sanders hoping to become the replacement for Asante Samuel, who left for greener pastures in Philadelphia.
