In hopes of improving corner play, N.E. signed CBs Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden. They will also hope a year of experience for Wheatley and Jonathan Wilhite makes a positive difference. And of course New England just drafted Darius Butler.

But the bottom line is this is a mismatch. 'Zona's receiving corps reminds me of San Diego because they have size and speed. Looking back to that week six beating, there was nothing the Patriots could do to stop the 6-5 Vincent Jackson. Even with good coverage on him, Jackson was able to reach over the defender and make plays. Jackson finished with 134 yards and a touchdown, Phillip Rivers topped 300 yards passing, New England barely pressured Rivers, and couldn't sack him either.

CB Terrence Wheatley, Lewis Sanders -They're not household names, but depth in the defensive backfield is an issue. The Patriots were interested in DeAngelo Hall for a reason. It's possible that Ellis Hobbs won't play as well, meaning a secondary already stretched thin is extended a little more. Will this the point where the secondary finally snaps?

O-line: They had a rough time against an aggressive defensive front. They allowed six sacks and did a poor job handling the blitz. Playing without three starters probably played a role in the performance.

Is it really as simple as plugging in the holes? It's very possible that Ellis Hobbs gets switched over from RCB to LCB. The left corner typically covers the opponent's primary receiver, the toughest assignment. I can't imagine that head coach Bill Belichick would start a rookie right out of training camp on the most dangerous receiver.

He joins Jason Webster and Lewis Sanders hoping to become the replacement for Asante Samuel, who left for greener pastures in Philadelphia.
