Joey Galloway

15 February 2010

If the Patriots have trepidation over signing a veteran receiver after last year’s Joey Galloway failure, they should feel a lot better about Holt.

Two things about Holt that makes me feel like he would easily adjust to the Patriots offense. For one, he was a seven-time Pro Bowler as a part of the Greatest Show on Turf offense in St. Louis. That high-flying wide open offense ran by the Rams was complicated. But even as a rookie, Holt played in every game as the Rams won Super Bowl XXXIV. After learning the offense, he exploded for 1,635 yards and six touchdowns. For the next five years, Holt finished with at least 1,300 yards and had three double-digit touchdown seasons. If Torry can excel in that offense, I have no doubt he will pick up New England’s system.

r the rest of the year? The proof will be in his play.

Whether the Patriots released Joey Galloway or kept him, New England still is in search for a productive third receiver. Denver wasted little time signing WR Jabar Gaffney early in free agency. Gaffney averaged 37 receptions for 458 yards. But his real contribution was moving the chains. Of his 38 receptions last year, 26 were for first downs. It was the same story in2007 as 25 of 36 receptions were for first downs.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, for nbenching WR Joey Galloway. While we may not know what Sam Aiken and Julian Edelman will contribute week to week, I’d take my chances with them over the 15-year veteran until Galloway learns the offense, if he ever does.

g touchdown catch by Minnesota’s Greg Lewis? Looks like the Patriots kept the wrong receiver. Joey Galloway continues to disappoint.

Congratulations to the Detroit Lions on their first win since 2007. It was a long wait, but they finally got it. Wish you the best success, until you play the Patriots.

They were under 50 percent in four yards or less situations.

Gallo-where: Joey Galloway was targeted twice, and both passes were nowhere near him. Of the new arrivals, only TE Chris Baker caught any of Tom Brady’s 39 passes.

Besides the fact that QB Tom Brady is back, New England signed WR Joey Galloway to be the third receiver. And Fred Taylor will help a healthy (for now) Laurence Maroney carry the load at running back.

He probably won’t get past Greg Lewis or Joey Galloway. Matt Slater might avoid the hatchet due to his special teams play. Raymond Ventrone hung on for four years, but this might be it for the converted safety.

12 completions, six went to Randy Moss, three were to Laurence Maroney, and the remaining three to Joey Galloway. Greg Lewis and Fred Taylor were targeted twice with no results. The new guys still aren’t in-sync with the rest of the offense.

He’s not going to start over Randy Moss or Wes Welker, but Joey Galloway is here for just one year. If Tate returns to his former self, he could have a breakthrough as the third receiver and returner.

WR Joey Galloway signed a one-year deal. By the time Tate is fully recovered, the path could be clear for him to become the third receiver. Not that he should go buy a home now. Brandon’s best bet is returning to action and validating the third round selection New England invested in him.

The receiver position is stocked with Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Joey Galloway, Brandon Tate, Sam Aiken, Greg Lewis, Matt Slater, Shun White, Terrence Nunn, and quarterback-turned receiver Julian Edelman.

O’Brien will do similar things with Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and new third receiver Joey Galloway is unfair to O’Brien. But if New England doesn’t consistently put points on the board, then O’Brien isn’t doing a good enough job.

16 March 2009

The weekend signing of WR Joey Galloway made headlines, but the bigger signing was the return of a reserve.

Along with bringing in the 10-year veteran, the Pats re-signed DL Mike Wright. He received serious consideration from Arizona and Denver but opted to stay with the team that gave him his first shot in the league.
