I was familiar with Gresham from his outstanding junior season. He finished with 10 touchdowns, and he did it as a red zone target and by running after the catch. Gresham doesn’t get enough credit for the latter. Rumor has it New England tried to trade for Denver’s Tony Scheffler, so Gresham shouldn’t be out of the question. Some say Cincinnati at 21 is interested, but the Bengals don’t throw to the tight end much and they drafted Chase Coffman last year. If Cincy passes on Gresham, then Baltimore apparently is interested because Todd Heap isn’t getting younger.

But this choice goes against what I’d hope the Pats do, which is select Oklahoma TE Jermaine Gresham

New England’s personnel will argue what they should do with the pick from the beginning of the draft, especially when it is their turn to pick. What the decision might come down to is should they draft by need or take the best player available.
