Jabar Gaffney

15 December 2011

Receivers Donte’ Stallworth (4 receptions, 96 yards) and Jabar Gaffney (6 rec, 92 yds, TD) were killing the secondary. I’m afraid Denver long snapper Lonnie Paxton will have a caree

New England thought the combination of Reche Caldwell and Jabar Gaffney could replace the departures. Nowhere close. The offense suffered, and the replacements didn’t make plays Branch and Givens consistently did.

Denver wasted little time signing WR Jabar Gaffney early in free agency. Gaffney averaged 37 receptions for 458 yards. But his real contribution was moving the chains. Of his 38 receptions last year, 26 were for first downs. It was the same story in2007 as 25 of 36 receptions were for first downs.

WR Jabar Gaffney, RB LaMont Jordan, and LS Lonnie Paxton were awarded new contracts elsewhere. Of course the Pats aren't sitting free agency out. RB Fred Taylor should be an upgrade over Jordan, and TE Chris Baker is a reliable target that should fit in well in the offense.

e paid, Wes Welker and Randy Moss.

2006 was another visit to the bargain bin that yielded just WR Jabar Gaffney and a out of retirement LB Junior Seau.

That was proceeded by a quantity over quality crop with hits (WR Tim Dwight, QB Doug Fluite) and misses (LB Monty Beisel, WR David Terrell). That was a break in the alternating pattern, but the year before they went high end.

p with no hope of doing anything.

There were other reasons the Patriots came up short, of course. Jabar Gaffney let a sure touchdown slip through his fingers on a perfect throw from Cassell, and David Thomas committed the stupidest penalty of the season to set up the impossible fourth down with about four minutes remaining.

Cassel will have to depend on Jabar Gaffney and Washington when his first two options are covered.

I also like that Washington is 6-3. We've seen what an advantage Moss' height is. Having another big target capable of snatching passes over the heads of smaller defenders would be valuable in the red zone. As the fourth wide out, Washington should draw favorable match-ups against weak links in the secondary.

uch a part of the defense as was any of the linebackers or defensive backs.

Then we have good old Jabar Gaffney who is a solid number three wideout . He overtook Donte Stallworth as a reliable third or fourth check down . With Donte due eight million, the Patriots could cut Donte and sign Jabar for at least half that. Jabar is quite solid and dependable and if the Patriots want a large possession receiver they can exercise the option on Kelly Washington (though at 4 million, the Patriots will try to renegotiate ). As for Chad Jackson, who knows what’s going on with his status.
