Faulk and DL Gerard Warren are two of 17 free agents and their return isn’t guaranteed. That’s not necessarily a negative. There’s room for improvement that experience might not take care of. Free agency can shore up a weakness quickly. And if New England continues their success in NFL Draft, some rookies will play from day one.

Two weeks into the season, DE Gerard Warren leads the Patriots in sacks with two. That would be reason for optimism for a 4-3 defense. But for a 3-4, it’s an anomaly. The OLBs should own that category in a 3-4. The good news is Tully Banta-Cain is right on Warren’s heels with 1.5 sacks. The bad news is they combine for 3.5 of the Pats’ four sacks.

Myron Pryor will be in the mix and Ron Brace looks to rebound from a disappointing rookie season. Rookies Kade Weston and Brandon Deaderick will set their sights on just making the team.
