There was something about September 7th, 2008 that felt wrong from the start.

The New England Patriots, coming off the almost-perfect season of 2007, took to their home turf for the season opener at Gillette Stadium, however they weren’t wearing their usual home blue jerseys.

riple bypass surgery.

Now, Hall of Fame guard and NFL Players Association executive director Gene Upshaw died Wednesday of pancreatic cancer. He was just 63 years old.

Unfortunately the freshest memory most people have of Upshaw is as the cantankerous negotiator for the NFLPA that seemingly ignored the pleas of many disabled players. Even if that is true, it fails to note how much he did for NFL players past, present, and future.

bigger piece of the pie.

 The only person who disagrees is NFL Players Association President Gene Upshaw. He thinks bigger rookie contracts are good because it will increase the contracts of veteran players.
