David Thomas

TE David Thomas was sent to New Orleans for an undisclosed draft pick. Because Thomas played the roll of fullback during the preseason, I figured his chances of staying were very good. But the Pats took a measure to improve on the role Thomas played.

s ‘backer.
If New England wants a huskier backfield, they could turn to a tight end. David Thomas lined up in the backfield as the lead blocker several times in game one. For a player that could be on the bubble when the cutdown days arrive, the added versatility could keep Thomas on the roster.

for the past two years, we barely noticed.
That’s a serious slight to Ben Watson and David Thomas, but who are they to argue? Last year Watson contributed 22 receptions and two touchdowns. Thomas had just nine catches.

Jabar Gaffney let a sure touchdown slip through his fingers on a perfect throw from Cassell, and David Thomas committed the stupidest penalty of the season to set up the impossible fourth down with about four minutes remaining.

There was a curl ran by Wes Welker that could had been a first down. And finally TE David Thomas beat the coverage but Cassel held on a beat too long. By the time he threw it, Cassel had to throw a bullet. If Cassel released it on Thomas' cut, the required touch would had floated the pass over LB Calvin Pace's hand and to the target just before LB Eric Barton arrived. That's 14 points the offense missed out on, not including the other trips into the red zone.

I thought he had a good chance of sticking with the team because TE David Thomas has had problems staying healthy. Pollard had been productive over the years, but the coaching staff apparently wasn't satisfied with Pollard's play.
