But his season came to an end with a black eye as he took a cheap shot at Patriots guard Dan Connolly after Brady’s quick kick at the end of the game. It’s understandable the emotion from such an embarrassing loss got the better of Miller. But he has to be better than that and take his whipping like a man, and use it to inspire him next season. Don’t go down the Ndamukong Suh road, Miller.

What’s encouraging is the production is getting better, even without C Dan Koppen. Dan Connolly slid over from RG into Koppen’s spot and G Brian Waters, a free agent signed after Koppen’s injury, keeps the unit humming.

Give the offensive line an alibi: OG Dan Connolly played part of the game hurt or it was LT Matt Light’s first game back. It doesn’t erase the fact that the Patriots were manhandled all night long.

The unit hasn’t missed a beat with Dan Connolly replacing the retired Stephen Neal at right guard. Left guard Logan Mankins, who held himself out for the first six weeks of 2010 over the lack of a contract extension, was made the highest paid guard in the NFL and is locked up for seven years.

If I’m G Logan Mankins watching the game from home, I felt my footing slip a little bit. Dan Connolly and the first string offensive line did a good job keeping the blitzing Saints off of QB Tom Brady and opening holes for the running game.

The stats say New England quarterbacks were sacked just 18 times, a fantastic number that is slightly over one sack per game. But memory paints a different picture. Brady took a pounding last year as defenses came after him, believing Brady’s recovery, both physically and mentally, coupled with unfriendly reminders of a relentless pass rush, would throw Brady off. And at times, it worked.
