It’s about time we stop thinking of Bill Belichick as boring. We have to get out of our heads that the Patriots head coach is as bland as the gray hooded sweatshirt he’s famous for. Just because he’s monotonous and personality-free during press conferences doesn’t mean Belichick doesn’t have an edgy side.

Great news for Sam “Bam” Cunningham. Not only was he inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame this past summer, but now the Patriots can retire his number!
The opportunity for the “39” made famous by Cunningham to never be worn again comes from Tuesday’s trade of RB Laurence Maroney. The former 2006 first round pick was sent to Denver, packed with a sixth round pick, in exchange for a fourth round pick.

It was a big deal when head coach Bill Belichick had the pictures of past Patriots teams removed from the walls. All the photos of players and moments from the past decade, including anything related to the three championships, gone. All memories purged from the hallways and rooms, as if those were bad memories.

What happens in preseason games doesn’t matter.
That’s garbage. Try telling that to a head coach after a piss-poor performance by his team as his hair goes gray during the post game press conference.

When CB Terrence Wheatley walked off the Gillette Stadium field last Thursday with a couple of trainers, it crossed my mind it would be for the last time as a Patriot for Wheatley. But his chance of sticking around went up with CB Leigh Bodden going down.

As OTA's and minicamps progress while training camp begin to roll over the horizon, America's favorite sport nears its regular season. While nobody knows how well teams will do in a season with the randomness of injuries and several other factors, it's always interesting to look ahead at the schedule and prognosticate. Unlike most people, I'm not going to give just a win or loss for each game, rather I'm going to predict how many times the Steelers would win if they played a team 10 times. For instance if the Steelers were playing a very crappy team, I would say 9/10 or 10/10. At the end i will add up the wins and divide by 10, giving us how many wins they will have this season.

In the world of journalism, it's the greatest compliment when an article you wrote inspires others to express their own opinion on the same subject.
Back in February, I wrote an article asking the question should teams draft tight ends in the first round. It was a relevant question because Oklahoma State's Brandon Pettigrew could be the only TE selected within the first 32 picks.

One of the great things about sports is that every week fans are provided with a plethora of new topics to think about and discuss. Along with my other posts, starting today, and continuing every Sunday for the foreseeable future, I am going to supply my readership with an opportunity to peer inside my oversized cranium and take a peek at what I’m mulling over.

Huh? A mistake? I was thinking some crusty old writer that believes no one should be unanimous decided to do his part to hold up his standard. But a mistake? Maybe a hanging chad is the reason for the mistake. I'll give him a pass.

About a couple of weeks ago, I was talking with a co-worker about the current state of the Patriots. He suggested that maybe the team would be better off tanking for better draft position as opposed to trying to get into the playoffs because they'd probably get bounced out early.

9. The Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals
There have been many years in the past when these were dreaded foes, and they made the Steeler defense shake in their cleats.
This isn't one of those years. In fact, playing the Bengals this year is more like a bye week. The rivalry between Pittsburgh and the "Ohio Players" has been one of the fiercest in the league for a long time, but it seems as if the Baltimore Ravens have become the biggest thorn in the Steelers' side. I don't think that will last very long, though. One night we'll all go to bed, and when we wake up, the Ravens will have moved to Los Angeles.

Winners - New York Jets
3) Cincinnati Bengals @ Houston Texans
The Texans will face a second winless team in as many weeks when they host the Bengals this Sunday at Reliant Stadium. Texans got out to an early 21-0 lead against the Lions before letting Detroit creep back in making the final score 28-21 Houston. Texans won the game, but as a fan of the team...it was quite scary toward the end. If the Lions played a decent first half along with the second half they played, we might be sitting here today talking about the Lions first victory. With that said Texans are 10 point favorites here. I've seen a few people across the web say how the Bengals will win the game. Not 'could' or 'maybe' but 'WILL'. All I have to say is good luck. Bengals have talent, they just haven't been able to have a decent chemistry this season. This is a team that just a few seasons ago was in the playoffs facing the Steelers. Carson Palmer could be out for the season. Ryan Fitzpatrick will get the start. Texans' fans know that a few seasons ago Fitzpatrick made a huge comeback when he played for the Rams against the Texans. That was a tough loss. With that said I'm picking the Texans. Bengals go to a tough 0-8.

Week six is nearly in the books, and the Black and Gold look more black and blue. The scheduling gods finally got one right, and Pittsburgh gets its bye week at the best possible time. After going through a meat grinder against Jacksonville and Baltimore, the Steelers needed this week to heal up, with the running back and D-line positions being hardest hit. Willie Parker looks set to return, which will take some of the load off of Big Ben. He’s partnered up with Najeh Davenport, who made his return last week after first round draft pick Rashard Mendenhall was lost for the season.

NFC East
Week 6
Hello East Fans,
Well after a week of Hiatus to curse the football gods for my team’s embarrassing losses. I felt a preview of the Best division in Football was the only way to quench the thirst. Every team in the division except for Washington is on the road, let’s start with the leaders of the pack.

Kellen Clemens never saw him. When the young quarterback dropped back in the pocket with six minutes left in the second quarter, he thought he had Jerricho Cotchery open on an out route. With little hesitation, he gunned the ball in the direction of his top receiver and watched it go for six. Unfortunately, for Clemens and Jets fans, those six points belonged to the opposing team, the Dallas Cowboys. Cornerback Terence Newman easily undercut the route and used his world-class speed to return the pass 50 yards down the sideline for his first touchdown of the season. Broken and overmatched, the Jets would lose the contest 34-3.

The Crying Game
The Terrell Owens story
Hello NFL fans,
Well here we are, week four of the third year with his last team. This will be his last team, I truly believe that. If I were an owner I would rather get a letter full of anthrax and then imprisoned IN Cuba to spend the rest of my days. The continuous onslaught of reporters and fans condemning my name and wanting my head on a stick would be too much for me to bare.

I just wanted to let you know that I may be unable to post for a few days. I live south of Houston, near Galveston, Texas. As hurricane Ike approaches there may be power outages and loss of internet access. If that is the case, I will be unable to write my column. Remember though, there are things much more important than sports. If you need Ike information, you can go to:

You know what was funny? Right after QB Tom Brady collapsed to the ground after the hit by KC safety Bernard Pollard, my first impulse was, "OK, so he's hurt. Bring in Drew Bledsoe!" That was a good memory because the Patriots still beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship and Brady returned to play in Super Bowl XXXVI.

It's not everyday a buddy from out of state comes up to visit. But it's amazing how much can happen when you turn your back for just a moment.
I was counting on the Patriots to make a move or two. Assembling a practice squad was a no-brainer. S Mark Dillard, RB BenJarvis Green-Ellis, LB Vince Redd, CB Mike Richardson, and DB Antwain Spann get to play scout team and possibly move up to the active roster somewhere down the line (or get signed to the active roster by another team).

What's the point then, what will work? I don't know, but I do know that forcing players to go to college does not force them to grow up and be the mature players that David Stern wants to have representing the league. The system of NBA recruitment and scouting is broken, and it only gets worse at the game's lower levels. Forcing young basketball players to go to college to cure the NBA's attitude problem is a lot like putting a band-aid on a sucking chest wound, sure you "made" an effort to fix the problem, but what's been done is to small and too narrow to cure what really ails basketball once and for all.

The Patriots aren't have a great off-season. After losing Super Bowl XLII, running back Kevin Faulk is found with a little bit of pot in his car. Reserve safety Willie Andrews trumps Faulk by being arrested with a bunch of weed and wads of cash.

After seven rounds and 252 picks, one thing stands out. 41 defensive linemen were drafted and 39 offensive linemen were granted employment.
Did someone say monkey see, monkey do? They always said the NFL is a copycat league and it couldn't be more obvious.
