Chad Ochocinco

4 February 2012

Veterans that never played in a Super Bowl (Shawn Ellis, Gerard Warren, Brian Waters, and Chad Ochocinco) are staring maybe their first and only opportunity to earn a ring. Young players, familiar with the Patriots Dynasty, want to start a new dynasty era.

WR Deion Branch was ruled out for the game with a leg injury. This opened the opportunity for WR Chad Ochocinco to start. He took advantage by pulling in his first touchdown reception as a Patriot. It was his only reception as the rest of the afternoon showed one miscommunication and Brady just overthrowing Ochocinco on a short out route. More playing time didn’t equal a larger contribution. By the way, no elaborate celebration after the score.

WR Chad Ochocinco had his first reception since week 10 against the New York Jets. Ochocinco making a miniscule contribution is nothing new. How he was used was. Ochocinco’s reception came when the offense was running a no-huddle attack. This might be a sign of Ochocinco’s understanding of the offense. He wasn’t on the field during no-huddle or two-minute offense situations before. Ochocinco doesn’t play much, but if he fully grasps the offense, his role could expand. It would add a new wrinkle to the offense late in the season. Defenses don’t want to deal with another Patriot weapon.

A round of applause to WR Tiquan Underwood for his impeccable Chad Ochocinco impersonation. He was on the field for two plays, was thrown to deep on one, dropped a probable touchdown, and then exited stage left.

The other four were lack of timing between Ochocinco and QB Tom Brady.

Based on playing time, Chad Ochocinco is getting it. It’s taken longer than expected, but he’s getting it. Ochocinco might be weeks away from having the impact many thought he would.

It should be a wild back and forth game. Eventually

Time to get real, Chad Ochocinco. You were worthy of being defended from the former Patriot detractors. But the grace period when you dropped that touchdown which could had won the game against Buffalo. Save your opposable thumbs for latching on to the pigskin instead of tweeting 140 characters.

Truth be told, two interceptions were off of deflections with the pick thrown while targeting WR Chad Ochocinco arguably was Ochocinco’s fault for not running a sharp enough route.

2. WR Wes Welker was in 2009 form. He tied a franchise record with 16 receptions and broke the yardage record with 217 yards, both career highs. Welker broke Terry Glenn’s 214 yards set in 1999 against Cleveland.

DEs Andre Carter and Mark Anderson. WR Chad Ochocinco. Veteran players New England hopes fresh starts reinvigorates their careers. All are expected to play big roles this season.

But will the changes work? The new defensive line had mixed results in the preseason. It showed signs of being disruptive in the first two games, but couldn’t get consistent pressure against Detroit and the New York Giants ran at will with second and third stringers all night.

As the day wound down Belichick struck again, swinging a deal for diva WR Chad Ochocinco of Cincinnati.

All off-season a pass rusher and a downfield threat were regarded New England’s glaring weaknesses. With all the names as suggested solutions, Belichick again went in a different direction.

The coaches and scouts are barricaded in their offices reviewing films of veterans (do they sign WR Chad Ochocinco?) and potential draft picks, so there won’t be any shortage of talk.

Losing in the Divisionals means the Pats have the 17th and 28th picks in the first round of the draft. Already DEs J.J. Watts/Ryan Kerrigan and RBs Mark Ingram/Mikel Leshoure have been projected in two mock drafts.

When CB Terrence Wheatley walked off the Gillette Stadium field last Thursday with a couple of trainers, it crossed my mind it would be for the last time as a Patriot for Wheatley. But his chance of sticking around went up with CB Leigh Bodden going down.
