Brian Hoyer

12 August 2010

d send a message to the rest of the league for not drafting him in 2009.

Head-to-head: QBs Brian Hoyer and Zac Robinson will get plenty of snaps to make their case to be Brady’s

scale measuring the need, with 1 being not a need and 5 being ugent: Quarterback

Tom Brady, Brian Hoyer Need: 1

As expected, Brady’s play improved halfway through the season as he recovered from knee reconstruction. He should be better in ’10, hopefully back to his old self. That doesn’t mean his 2007 self, as that season was an anomaly. Anywhere north of 25 touchdowns and 10 or less interceptions will be a great year if he isn’t battered throughout the year.

QB Brian Hoyer was good enough to be the sole back-up to Tom Brady as a rookie. If Hoyer takes the next step in his development, Tebow will be an afterthought.

What should be news is that New England watched Northwestern DE Corey Wootton work out. The verdict: he’s not athletic enough to switch to OLB. Clearly the Patriots are finally taking the need for an OLB seriously.

On Sunday he launched himself at Brian Hoyer, recovered a fumble for a touchdown, and caught the interception that set up the Texans’ winning score.

Big Blue Bullies – New York played the starting offense for one drive and the starting defense for almost a quarter, and it showed. It doesn’t prove much going against third stringers.

Releasing QB Kevin O’Connell ensured that Andrew Walter would be the back-up with Brian Hoyer the emergency/developmental passer. Rookie long snapper Jake Ingram edged free agent Nathan Hodel. And Tank Williams’ release locks in Brandon Merriweather, James Sanders, Brandon McGowan and Pat Chung as the safetys.

20 August 2009

Rookie free agent Brian Hoyer did a respectable job for someone not good enough to get drafted.

Ground game – I thought the Patriots planned to emphasize the run. When they did run, Fred Taylor, in his first preseason action, looked fine. BenJarvus Green-Ellis was nice, except for the fumble.
