LB Brandon Spikes – Florida
The former second rated inside linebacker in the draft. He fell out of the first round after clocking a 5.0 in the 40. But with his size and production, Spikes will likely go in the second round. He’s a football player, not a sprinter. That’s what coaches care about.
DT Brian Price – UCLA
Price is an upfield-type of DT that excels in being disruptive. That makes him a better fit for an aggressive 4-3 to take advantage of his ability to get in the backfield and make plays. Maybe he isn’t ready to play in a 3-4 out of the box. Price is a possible second round pick.
TE Jermaine Gresham – Oklahoma
Gresham is a prototype TE with size and athleticism coaches dream of. He’s apparently 100 percent following knee surgery so health isn’t a concern. What people wonder about is whether Gresham can block. He’ll pick that up later as he’s too appealing as a target. Gresham is on my wish list.
RB Ryan Mathews – Fresno State
Mathews is rated the second best at his position, but I rank him first because he’s an every down ball carrier. Mathews doesn’t have breakaway speed and his hands are unproven, but Mathews can carry the ball 25-30 time a game and move the chains between the tackles.
DE/LB Daniel Te'o-Nesheim – Washington
I’ve heard more than once that New England is really high on the man with a unique name. He’s Washington’s all-time sacks leader and he got better year after year, peaking with eleven sacks in his senior year. He has the measurables (6’3” 263 4.75).
CB Kyle Wilson – Boise State
Curious that the Pats checked out Wilson since it’s unlikely he will be available at 22. With the receivers coming to the AFC East, need for another corner is understandable. Wilson’s stock rose from a second rounder to a solid first.
