Pick Six: Week 3

He’s close. You know it. He knows it. And it’s frustrating Tom Brady to no end to being just a little off. Brady had a handful of overthrows or didn’t put the ball in exactly the right spot. It should come back to him in time, but for now Brady will beat himself up until the touch returns.

As if Brady wasn’t having enough problems, the number of drops (and a foot out of bounds and not running a route all the way through) is embarrassing. New England left a lot of points on the field. It would had been a major blowout if it wasn’t for the mental lapses.

The return of the running game was sorely missed, but the leading role, while a feel good story, is also very disappointing. Free agent discard Fred Taylor grinded out 105 yards while Laurence Maroney was held out of the game with a thigh injury. Whether the boo-boo was real or a ploy to light a fire under Maroney, he should take it as a sign that carries are earned, not given.

Instead of griping about what the defense doesn’t do, how about appreciating what they do well (I’m guilty of this)? They’re stingy in the yards department and don’t allow a lot of points. If they can do that without a high number of interceptions, then the defense is holding up their end of the bargain.

Anybody notice the great game-winning touchdown catch by Minnesota’s Greg Lewis? Looks like the Patriots kept the wrong receiver. Joey Galloway continues to disappoint.

Congratulations to the Detroit Lions on their first win since 2007. It was a long wait, but they finally got it. Wish you the best success, until you play the Patriots.
