Pick Six

If everyone else can have a numbered list, why can’t I?

After every game, I’ll select six things that caught my attention and say a little something about it. Sometimes I'll make an extra point or maybe even go for an additional two. After one preseason game, what stood out?

Tom Brady – for someone coming off a major knee injury, he looked better than I anticipated. Two throws in particular weren’t on target, but otherwise, he needs to work off the rust.

Julian Edelman – I didn’t believe the Patriots were serious about converting Edelman into a receiver. He looked pretty serious working the slot and returning punts.

Run Defense – I’m ready to see the 3-4. I’m not blaming the 4-3 alignment, but they didn’t stop the run.

Ground Game – The starting offense didn’t run the ball well. It was a test against the 4th-ranked run defense from 2008, and they failed this round.

Secondary – The future might be bright with all the young potential. CB Jonathan Wilhite wasn’t beat deep and Darius Butler got an interception to prevent a 2-point conversion. Safetys Tank Williams and Brandon Merriweather blitzed well.

Pass Rush – Rob Ninkovich got good pressure against second and third units. What will he do against better competition? Tully Banta-Cain and Myron Pryor got a sack each.
