Well actually, CB Darius Butler hasn’t done anything yet. But his agent and the Patriots reached an agreement. And after the contract is faxed back and forth, Butler will sign it and officially become a Patriot.
That means two out of the 12 draft picks are guaranteed to not hold out this year. With training camp just weeks away, that’s a lot of work to be done between now and the first practice on July 30th.
If Butler is as good as advertised, he could become the Patriots’ third corner back, creeping over Jonathan Wilhite and Terrence Wheatley. No offense, but I feel the coaching staff will start veteran free agent acquisitions Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden. There’s nothing wrong with a one-year apprenticeship, Darius.

Elsewhere in football, I attended the Eastern Conference Championship for Boston’s professional women’s tackle football team, the Militia. Everyone thought Boston had won the game when QB Allison Cahill left the pocket to scamper for a go-ahead touchdown with a little more than a minute left.
But on the next play, the Washington Divas returned the kickoff for a touchdown. That proved to be the difference in the game and the Militia’s undefeated season came to an end. What an unfortunate end to a great season.
