Reese a Valuable Piece to the Patriots Front Office

Considering the Patriots promote coaches to coordinators following an apprenticeship, then it's not surprising that head coach Bill Belichick would do the same within the front office.

Everyone expected director of player personnel Nick Caserio would replace VP of player personnel Scott Pioli. Well Caserio did get promoted, but not all the way to VP. Caserio will manage the daily operations of player personnel. But Floyd Reese was hired as a senior football advisor.

On paper it sounds like Caserio will handle the draft and free agency while Reese writes the contracts and other unnamed responsibilities.

Hmmm...I'm a little suspicious with Reese's vague title. And frankly I couldn't be happier that Reese's advisory role isn't defined.

Reese was the architect of the Tennessee Titans team that reached the Super Bowl. He drafted some highly productive players, including DE Javon Kearse, QB Steve McNair, CB Samari Rolle, RB Eddie George, LB Keith Bullock and WR Derrick Mason. Floyd has an eye for talent and I imagine New England would value his opinions and suggestions.

The Pats obviously have that in mind. Whether Reese''s office is right next to Caserio's, Reese is around to show Caserio the ropes of the business side as well as take Nick under his wing and share his secrets of how to identify talent. Along with Pioli, Reese has one of the best football minds. Caserio should be honored to learn from Reese.

While the length of the agreement hasn't been announced, Reese says this is more than just a one year deal. However long this partnership between Caserio and Reese lasts, this reorganizing of the front office should work great for the Patriots.
