The Patriots made a few more roster moves recently. They did an exchange in the practice squad as S Mark Dillard is out and OL Ryan Wendell is in. Also, WR Maurice Price was signed to the active roster. Hopefully that doesn't mean WR Kelly Washington's injury is worse than we know. Then again, we would never know. One thing we do know is Washington didn't make a public appearance for practice.
But the Price signing means nothing as we await word from a Patriot great. All we know is former NE receiver Troy Brown will make an announcement tomorrow.
He will hold a 10 AM press conference at Gillette Stadium Thursday. Will he announce his retirement? Is he signing on as a player/coach? Will he host a Bingo tournament to fill the void created by the bye week? Has he reached an agreement to open a big and tall retail store inside Patriot Place, a.k.a. Kraft City?
Most believe Brown has given up hope of signing with a team and will finally hang up his cleats.
While a part of me is a little down that it is an unceremonious way for a career to end, I'm a little relieved. I knew the day was near when the Pats released him. I figured Brown would retire practically on the spot with a press conference while he was still fresh in the mind of the fans.
But instead Troy expressed interest in continuing his career. Since it wouldn't be with New England, he shopped his services around. Brown signing elsewhere was my worst nightmare.
But no team bit, leading to this press conference. I'm taking a wait and see approach to this press conference. But if Brown does retire, then he's ending his career with the only team he played for. It's a fitting end that he comes back home to hang it up.
