I was going to talk about the two starting quarterbacks benched this week in favor of their back-ups, but then I saw these comments by Miami LB Joey Porter about QB Matt Cassel on ESPN:
I just know he's not a Tom Brady. So if it's not Tom Brady, it shouldn't be that hard.
You treat him like you treat a backup. How do you prepare for a backup? He don't get that many snaps, right? So you throw the kitchen sink at him. That's what we're going to do.
It'll be good to go out there and get our first victory.
Do they ever learn? Some do, but never Porter.
He was the one in 2004 shouting from every mountaintop that his Pittsburgh Steelers were the best team in the league after beating the Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles in consecutive weeks during the regular season. He was right. Pittsburgh was the best regular season team. But in the AFC Championship, they were used and abused by the Pats. Two weeks later New England beat Philly and earned the title of best team, period.
Who is Porter to talk? He of one sack this year is the king of bark and no bite. What will he do to back up this statement?
I've never been a fan of Pittsburgh, but Porter was a primary reason why I hated them. They talked too much and rarely live up to their declarations. Usually it was Porter the first and loudest at the mic. Porter's no longer there, but the attitude is contagious. Anybody remember S Anthony Smith anymore?
In 16 games last year, Porter had 5.5 sacks. Those are not the kind of numbers that warrant someone to be flapping their gums. He must think he's still a premiere rush linebacker even though his numbers have declined for two consecutive years.
I'm gonna keep an eye on Porter Sunday. I'll wait and see if he's in on any sacks and when. I have a feeling he'll get one and do his stupid "give 'em da boot" celebration. By then the game will be well in hand for the Patriots.
As if the Pats didn't have enough reason to win. Thanks for stoking the fire, Porter. I'd like to add something, but I'll adhere to the Patriots Way and let New England's play do the talking on Sunday.
Though I didn't talk about back-up quarterbacks here, I did talk about a new starter elsewhere. Basically, the Green Bay Packers are better with Aaron Rogers than with Brett Favre.
