Happy Homecoming

It's preseason game number three against the Philadelphia Eagles. And for the first time since the AFC Championship, the Patriots are at home. Yeah, it doesn't count against the record, but there's no place like home no matter the circumstances. Maybe familiar surroundings will be the difference for a handful of players raising their game. Or this could make the O-line find their comfort level. It could be the reason the defense imposes their will on Philly. No matter what happens, it's good to be home.

That could be what G/C Mike Flynn is thinking. Yesterday the Pats signed the 10-year Raven to a one year contract. As long as he stays healthy (and I must add that disclaimer because two free agent offensive linemen signed by New England will spend their season on injured reserve. Damn it!), Flynn will play his eleventh season in his home state. He played high school ball at Springfield Cathedral High School before moving on to the University of Maine for college.

And then there's old friend Asante Samuel. It was no surprise that he took the money and ran to the Eagles as a free agent. Tonight he gets to give his final good-bye to the fans, which may not be very hospitable to "A$ante $amuel."

For the moment it looks like Tom Brady won't play. Enjoy round three of Cassel vs Gutierrez.
