On Tuesday, right tackle Nick Kaczur plead guilty to speeding at a New York courtroom. I wonder if he should bother to come back.

Though Kaczur remains on the roster, I wonder if his position is tenuous. A day after the Pats signed two more draft picks (LB Shawn Crable and QB Kevin O'Connell), they also added 10-year veteran RT Anthony Clement.

Call it house cleaning. New England didn't hesitate to dispose of DB Willie Andrews following his arrest for putting a gun to the head of his fiancee. Like Andrews, Kaczur could be shown the door because of his potential legal troubles.

Kaczur's guilty plea was part of a deal so he wouldn't face possession charges for being found with 200-plus pills of oxycontin. If he stays out of trouble for six months, those charges will be dropped. I don't think the Patriots have that much patience.

It's not a question of can Nick Kaczur do his job. He was part of an offensive line that surrendered just 21 sacks. But would the unit be better off without a potentially distracted Kaczur. Already he's being challenged by Ryan O'Callaghan. The O-line loses nothing when the bigger Ryan started in place of Kaczur in the past. Add Clement to the mix and that makes the battle for right tackle a free-for-all (rookie free agent RT Lavdrim Bauta was signed Tuesday, but is more likely for training camp depth or is destined for the practice squad).

Kaczur had his problems on the field keeping the pocket secured. Add the potential off-field issue and Kaczur is in for a battle to keep his job.

In other news, second round pick CB Terrence Wheatley signed Tuesday, leaving LB Jerod Mayo the only draft pick without a contract. Based on Scot Pioli's track record, I expect Mayo to be signed in time for Thursday's start of training camp.
