What better day to release a mock draft than on April Fools Day? No one takes these seriously anyway. Even funnier, people do this as if it has any reliability. Yet every year fans and experts can't resist to make an attempt at predicting who goes where in the first round. It's crazy, really.
But projecting beyond the first round is reason to be institutionalized.
I never denied being crazy, but I'm not insane. So here's a first round mock draft:
1 Miami Dolphins – DE Chris Long
Can play in a 4-3 or 3-4
2 St. Louis Rams – OT Jake Long
O-line gave up 48 sacks and the top two QBs have long injury histories
3 Atlanta Falcons – DT Glenn Dorsey
Don’t like Matt Ryan this early. Will draft a QB later
4 Oakland Raiders – DE Vernon Gholston
Sacks look cooler than stopping the run
5 Kansas City Chiefs – OT Ryan Clady
KC cut three O-linemen from a unit that gave up 55 sacks
6 New York Jets – RD Darren McFadden
Incumbent RB Thomas Jones hits the magical age of 30 in August. Time to get his replacement
7 New England Patriots – LB Quentin Groves
3-4 linebackers are harder to find than everyday cornerbacks
8 Baltimore Ravens – QB Matt Ryan
If QB Troy Smith is the franchise’s future, he’s gonna have to earn it
9 Cincinnati Bengals – DT Sedrick Ellis
If the Bengals do convert to a 3-4, Ellis should be able to handle playing DE
10 New Orleans Saints – CB Leodis McKelvin
The secondary really needs reinforcements
11 Buffalo Bills – WR Malcom Kelly
The receiving corps needs size to complement Lee Evans and Josh Reed
12 Denver Broncos – LB Keith Rivers
Head coach Mike Shanahan is overhauling the position
13 Carolina Panthers – DE Calais Campbell
It’s a problem when you have DE Julius Peppers and only 23 sacks
14 Chicago Bears – RB Rashard Mendenhall
They made a mistake with RB Cedric Benson. Hopefully this would fix the error
15 Detroit Lions – OT Chris Williams
QB Jon Kitna guaranteed 10 wins. That won’t happen unless he’s kept upright
16 Arizona Cardinals – DE Derrick Harvey
A move to LB would create bookend pass rushers with Travis LaBoy
17 Minnesota Vikings – CB Dominique Rogers-Cromartie
With a solid defense they can gamble on a player with the most potential
18 Houston Texans – RB Felix Jones
A pedestrian backfield gets a much needed game-breaker
19 Philadelphia Eagles – OT Jeff Otah
Remember that game against the Giants? Philly hasn’t forgotten either
20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers – CB Mike Jenkins
So much for losing CB Brian Kelly as a free agent
21 Washington Redskins – DE Phillip Merling
They need to create more pressure to help DE Andre Carter
22 Dallas Cowboys – WR DeSean Jackson
Owner Jerry Jones can’t resist the speedy big-play wide out
23 Pittsburgh Steelers – CB Aquib Talib
The suspect secondary can’t be saved by the pass rush all the time
24 Tennessee Titans – WR Devin Thomas
A better target should make QB Vince Young better
25 Seattle Seahawks – G John Greco
The line never recovered from losing G Steve Hutchinson
26 Jacksonville Jaguars –DE Lawrence Jackson
The Jags still have problems rushing the passer
27 San Diego Chargers – RB Jonathan Stewart
This would be unfair to replace RB Michael Turner with this guy
28 Dallas Cowboys – S Kenny Phillips
The overrated Roy Williams takes a long seat on the bench
29 San Francisco 49ers – OT King Dunlap
The line needs to be fortified after allowing 55 sacks
30 Green Bay Packers – DT Pat Sims
He replaces the traded Corey Williams in the D-line rotation
31 New York Giants – LB Jerod Mayo
New York lost two ‘backers in free agency

I like your pick of Groves for the Pats. They could probably get him a little later but if that trade isn't there I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the trigger on him at 7. He's a little scary and I like that.
