Four corners

As the Patriots continue to do their homework, they will get close looks at three corners expected to be selected outside of the first round. They are Brandon Flowers of Virginia Tech, Charles Godfrey of Iowa and Terrell Thomas from Southern Cal.

The most intriguing of the three is Flowers because he sounds like he would fit seamlessly into the New England secondary. Scouting reports say he plays great in zone schemes and has solid ball skills.

Godfrey is the fastest of the prospects and was coached by Belichick protege Kirk Frentz. That means Belichick has some insider information about Godfrey that could possibly sway him towards Godfrey.

Thomas would be the big corner the secondary lacks. He's been also mentioned as a player who started as a safety before switching to corner for the Trojans. That kind of versatility would appeal to Belichick.

It would be no surprise when the Pats take a corner on the first day. Signing three veteran CBs in free agency won't deter the franchise from going after a fresh prospect.

But what their legwork and research does is send a message that they have zero interest in troubled Tennessee Titan Adam "Pacman" Jones.

Granted with the latest news that the Dallas Cowboys are trying to bring him to the Lonestar State it greatly reduces the chance of the Jones coming to New England. Add in the fact that only Dallas is interested in acquiring Jones then it officially puts to bed the Jones-Patriots rumor.

How in the world did that start in the first place? It could had been as simple as a phone call between the two ball clubs in where the Patriots front office asked, "So, what are you guys gonna do with Pacman?" Boom, instant rumor of interest.

And that spark was fanned by the Boston Herald in an article with Jones' lawyer, who said his client would love to play for the Pats.

“If Tennessee decides there is going to be a trade, New England would be a very good fit for us," Manny Arora said to the Herald. "The reason for that is great leadership, strong coaching and a winning tradition.

“Over my years representing athletes and being a lawyer, as long as you’re winning, all the baggage goes away. No one wants to be the guy to mess up winning. The track record the Patriots have in giving players a fresh start would be a great fit.”

If he's trying to compare Jones' situation to the likes of running back Corey Dillion and Randy Moss, you couldn't be any further off base. These guys aren't even in the same class as troubled individuals.

Dillon and Moss were long time NFL veterans. Dillon and Moss were problems because they were tired of losing. Dillon stayed out of trouble off the field and Moss had a traffic incedent.

That's nothing compared to Pacman who's been arrested 10 times! What guarantee is there he won't run afoul again? Even a lifetime ban from either of The Foxy Lady strip clubs in Rhode Island and Massachusetts isn't enough peace of mind.

Who really believed the Pats would bring in Pacman? Only if they hosted a "We're Sorry, Christian Peter" Day would Jones ever have a chance to join the Pats. That day hasn't happened and it never will. So don't ever expect to see Jones in Patriots red, silver, and blue.
