1. Oakland DT Richard Seymour wanted to prove how good he still is to his former team. Why prove yourself? Seymour’s overzealousness led to two personal foul penalties that helped the Patriots score a touchdown on their first drive of the game. The proof is in the statistics, Big Sey. Since being traded to the Raiders, Seymour has out-sacked New England’s defensive tackles, 12-to-9.
2. New England played predominantly zone defense in the secondary after playing mostly man-to-man in the first three games. The numbers say the switch didn’t help, as Oakland QB Jason Campbell completed 64 percent of his passes for 344 yards. The Raiders had 18 offensive plays of 10 yards or more, 10 were 20 yards or more.
3. QB Tom Brady and company keep on streaking. Sorry to disappoint you ladies, but not that kind of streaking. Brady threw at least two touchdowns in his 13th straight game, tying Indianapolis’ Peyton Manning for the NFL record. And the Patriots’ streak of at least 30 points was extended to 12 straight games. That is second to the Greatest Show on Turf St. Louis Rams.
4. WR Wes Welker signed his name in the Patriots record book again. His production for the past two weeks is the greatest total receiving yards (375) in two straight games.
5. Get used to it. RB Stevan Ridley scored his first career touchdown on a 33-yard burst. It is New England’s longest run this season. He was short for his first career 100-yard rushing day by just three yards.
6. Can the coaches move NT Vince Wilfork to safety? After playing more than 100 games without an interception, Wilfork has two in his last three games.
Extra Point: Players on both teams wore pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For the month of October, players, coaches and referees will wear pink to support the fight against breast cancer. For more information and how you can contribute, go to NFL.com/pink.
Go For Two: Say what you want about the Oakland Raiders and the franchise’s attitude, but give them credit for showing respect. They held a moment of silence before the game in honor of Myra Kraft, the late wife of Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
