Much can be said about the Patriots recent offseason loses. Much like what can be said about me posting nothing in 2 weeks. They're both not good.

Asante Samuel, Randall Gay, Roosevelt Colvin, Eugene Wilson, Donte Stallworth, and of course, Oscar Lua are the recent casualties of the Patriots Super Bowl... attending 2007 team. When you look at the contracts taht some of these guys have gotten, (17.6$ Million for Gay, anyone?) it's easy to see how the Patriots justify letting them go.

Donte Stallworth may be a great receiver- he could even make a pro bowl or two before his career is over- but on the Patriots last season, he was primarily the number 4 receiver. Although he was excellent on short screens and wonderful downfield, he was simply under utilized due to the presence of Welker for short passes and Moss for the downfield stuff. There's no reason for the Pats to pay Stallworth top receiver money for the production that they could easily get out of Jabar Gaffney (who was resigned) or Kelley Washinton. Speaking of Kelley, would somone throw him that ball? Reward the guy than do this this-

It comes to a point in this choatic hurricane of agents, contracts, and negotiations that we call the NFL offseason that we must look upon our teams with shame of such a furvour that no hoodie with the sleeves cut off can hide the guilty party.

It is a sham, a travesty, and complete shenanigans that our best freeagent player is to be taken by the Philadelphia Eagles over a minor point of contract money.

To those of you that are unaware, I am of crouse speaking about Bam Childress.

Well, not yet. But at this rate, whoever steps onto the mound in Tokyo in the 25th will most likely be a surprise.

The 2008 starting rotation for the Boston Red Sox is a formidable one, even without Johan Santana, but it doesn’t look like it at this point in the season, which hasn’t actually started yet.

21-game winner Josh Beckett is the obvious ace of the staff, but his recent back injury aggravation is going to take him out of the entire trip to the far east. This isn’t exactly the best news we’ve heard since his (second) breakout season last year. Beckett’s injury issues, usually attributed to blisters on his finger, have been a red flag for him for most of his career.

That up there? That's the New York Yankees' Shelley Duncan sliding cleat-point first into the scrotum of the Devil Rays' Akinori Iwamura during yesterday's scrimmage in Florida. The incident was immediately followed by a on-field scuffle between the two teams.

Unfortunately for those who don't like going under frequent cup-checks, or those who like making sure they're going to eventually make little Akinori's, this isn't the first time Shelley Duncan's done something like this.

As soon as I figure out how to get youtube videos on here, this'll be much better. Until then... courage.

Anyway, I recently came across this video at the wonderful spot at Deadspin and it made me start thinking about what the greatest in-game sports spectacles are. You know, the coolest thins that happen in sports that aren't the games themselves.

5. The Hat Trick

If the hat trick was a candy bar, it'd be a Snickers. Satisfying, enjoyable, but then again, pretty everyone can and has gotten one. It's still a spectacle to see a bunch of people that still care about hockey throwing their hats onto the ice. You rarely see that type of fan participation these days. Especially something that it team-neutral and rarely happens. Which, of course, is part of the charm of the hat trick.

I'm just gonna go out and say i'm writing this out of pure joy.

I've previously stated my obsession with the phenomenon that is the goalie fight. In my opinion, it is the single greatest event that has been bestowed to us fans by the realm that is sports.

So it is in my infinite happiness that I present this video.

I'm too excited and lazy to make this smaller or look better. I just want to write this and go on with my life and be happy, which is what that link does.

Not only does it involve the legendary goalie fight, it involves a goalie that is looking for a fight like a hobo looks for a sammich in the trash. He wants it, and he wants it NOW

There's an episode of the Simpsons were the Homer-coached Springfield Wildcats are preparing for a game and Homer lends his hand in leading a cheer for his squad.

"Who are we? The Wildcats! Who're we gonna beat? The Wildcats!"

Such a situation, unlike most things founf in the Simpsons, is not that unlikely to occur in the world of sports, especially in this year's Men's NCAA Basketball tournament. Come with me on an adventure while we take a glance at this year's teams. (Also mentioned in my Daily Collegian article.)

The Wildcats:

The Wildcat is an anomaly. It's probably the most comon mascot in college sports, but it really doesn't refer to one thing. It really makes no sense to base your mascot on a non-domestic feline. The Wildcat, however, is an improvement over the headscratchers such as a bearcat (a what?).
