Combine 40 times for Cornerbacks

The most common scenario for the Patriots in April's draft in my mind is them trading down and picking up one of the many talented cornerbacks. Here's today's results from the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

  1. Dominique Rogers-Cromartie:     4.33
  2. Leodis McKelvin:                        4.38
  3. Mike Jenkins:                            4.38
  4. Aqib Talib:                                4.48
  5. Antoine Cason:                         4.49
  6. Brandon Flowers:                      4.54
  7. Chevis Jackson                          4.58

Of course all the measurables have to be taken with a grain of salt. The ultimate measure of how good a player is is to watch him on film. But what can we take from the above times? Well first off it will be interesting to see what Mike Mayock has to say about his golden boy Brandon Flowers. He's just barely under the acceptable time for a cornerback (4.55). It will be interesting to hear how Mayock spins it.

Rogers-Cromartie (seen below) was the number one d-back at the Senior Bowl and with a time like this his stock is bound to rise a little more. As far as the Patriots are concerned I am not sold yet that Rogers-Cromartie is the kind of guy they like. He comes from a 1-AA school and scouts say he tends to play a bit out of control.

I Am Fast

The Patriots have already interviewed Aqub Talib and Rogers-Cromartie and surely they will take a look at the rest of these top six. Mike Jenkins had been falling in a lot of people's rankings but he looked good today and might be on his way back up. More to come as further analysis is made available...
