2007 New England Patriots: Perspective
Alright, I'm over it. It really sucked how it ended but I think I can finally look back and say what a friggin journey it was being a Patriots fan in 2007. It was amazing watching how Tom Brady and Randy Moss clicked from the first moment. I will look forward to seeing all the highlight film catches forever. Every member of the team seemed to step up at some point and make a play. There was some real magic. I almost had a heart attack in at least five games. Every single game just got bigger and bigger. But they lost something after they beat the Bills. Teams might've caught on to what they were doing and because they all seemed to find ways to shut down the offense that had been unstoppable until that point. Pittsburgh was a huge win (and I was there). As the season wore on and the offense started to look less than explosive we thought they were just saving the big guns for the playoffs. We were wrong. They were still good enough to not lose a game. And everyone knows they came close. They should've lost four times against the Baltimore Ravens. Should've at least gone to overtime with the Eagles. The new controversy every week. The continuous coverage on all major sports shows and sites. I would have to call the 2007 New England Patriots the most focused team ever. Did the '72 Dolphins have any kind of controversies during their 17-0 season? I think 18-1 stands up pretty well to that given the over the top media coverage nowdays. They took it as far as they possibly could've. The finish line was there in sight but alas they fell just short. We all fall just short sometimes and in that I can take some appreciation of how the magical ride came to an end. And now that I'm starting to look forward to next season I realize how lucky as a fan I am.
