Some Actual Non-Spygate Patriots News: Stallworth and Washington not picked up...

The Patriots notified Donte Stallworth and Kelley Washington that they are not going to be picking up their multi-year extension options. The Pats may be trying to get them to sign new, less expensive deals but this could also be a sign that they are confident in resigning Randy Moss. It could also point to the developmental progress of Chad Jackson. Many fans see the WR roster for 2008 to look like this:

Moss
Welker
Gaffney
Chad Jackson
(Bam Childress - a guy that has been on the Pats practice squad for multiple years and seems to bring a lot of multiple position value, C.J. Jones - just finshed year two on the practice squad)

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see "Nico" Stallworth back and Washington was a special teams stand out. But should they not return the Pats still have a formidable collection of weapons at the position.

This could be Chad Jackson's chance to show why the Pats traded up to grab him in the second round. He didn't catch any passes this year, returned kicks a couple times. Showed a couple flashes but nothing that would get you too excited. But we don't see practice. He could be showing he's got some potential and Belichick might want to open up the log jam at the WR position to get him on the field. Although I don't seem to recall him ever getting the black jersey signifying practice player of the week. That would've been a good sign. If Washington and Stallworth end up leaving the Pats the chances are pretty good the Pats want to see what Chad's got.
