There's never a dull moment in the Bill Belichick Patriots Dynasty. They lost their third straight preseason game Friday night, looked generally flat and only added fuel to the fire from the mediots and opposing fans who think it actually means something.
I know it's been frustrating to watch. The offense looks like the 49ers', the defense looks like the Cardinals', the special teams look like Blaine Beauty Schools'. We're all wondering what happened to the team that just imposed their will upon everyone.
The only enjoyment I've gotten from this is watching opposing fans build a sense of false hope. They're all fooling themselves into believing that the Patriots, with nearly the identical team to the one that went 16-0, suddenly stink.
You'd think from the emails I've gotten from Eagles fans that they just won the Super Bowl, minus Donovan McNabb barfing this time of course.
I take it as a compliment. No matter if it's a meaningless game in August, teams are always bringing their best when the face the Pats. Too bad the Pats are just using the preseason to get ready for when the games actually count.
But Mark Schlereth says Brady needs to play so the offense can get in sync! The Pats are already in sync.
The only place where this preseason has been truly important is getting the new players experience in Patriots system. While Jerod Mayo, Shawn Crable and Terrence Wheatley have all looked like rookies at times, they all look like they're going to be pretty solid NFL players.
So everyone just needs to chillax. The Patriots are using the preseason games as they're meant to be used: get players experience, find out where their weaknesses and strengths are, and reveal nothing to future opponents about what kind of new wrinkles they're preparing for when the games really count.
As we learned last year it's not how you start, it's how you finish and we're a mere two weeks from reminding the NFL that this dynasty is far from over.
