Random Thoughts from the Football Void

Praise Belichick, tomorrow is mini-camp! Sure, there's isn't going to be a whole lot of news but we have to take what we can get as we're battling thru the void. But take solice, next month training camp opens and the 2008 season will be under way. Some random thoughts as I've had some time to reflect upon 2007 and what's coming in 2008...

What would it have been like if the Pats had gone 19-0? Has anyone really stopped to think about it? It could never be topped by any other team, but it also could never be topped by another Patriots team. Would all future seasons be a disappointment even if they won a Super Bowl? It would always be, 'yeah they won a Super Bowl, but they lost those two games in October'. I'd still rather be 19-0 than 18-1 of course, but there would've been baggage that came with 19-0. Seriously I'm just going to keep telling myself that.

How come more people didn't pick the Giants to win the Super Bowl? When you look back at it now they had ZERO pressure on them. They could've gotten blown out and the season would've still be a success from them. When you couple that with the pressure of 19-0, Spygate, Randy Moss hurt-my-finger-gate and Tom Brady ankle-gate (and the killer Giants pass-rush) more of us should've seen the upset coming. In truth I'm kind of surprised it took an 82-yard drive in the final minutes for the Giants to win.

Drago, the rook punter, got cut today. Every year I hope a young punter with a cool last name and booming leg becomes the man for the Pats. And every year said young punter gets cut out of nowhere. Go Scott Player! The Pats need a Fu-Mancu.

We'll have some reports in the coming days about mini-camp. Looking forward to hearing what Tom Brady has to say in his first time talking to the press since SB 42.
