Mike Florio's Pro Football Talk Rumor Mill is a site any NFL fan should check out multiple times daily. Now he's got the Patriots draft needs up. There's some interesting stuff in here as to who the Pats are rumored to be interested in. I take issue with Safety being a major need. Maybe for depth but OLB and CB are bigger ones. He also fails to mention Sammy Morris who was tearing it up last year before he got hurt against Dallas. The Pats should be pretty much set at running back. Tight End, specifically a blocking behemoth, needs to be much higher on the list with Kyle Brady not coming back.
Our personal take for the biggest needs on the Pats are:
- Outside Linebacker - It's still unclear if Pierre Woods has a future as a starter or if he's going to be stuck on Special Teams. Regardless they need an OLB, preferably with their first pick be it at #7 or wherever they trade down to. Get to know the linebackers with Pats potential here.
- Cornerback - Lots of quality corners in this years draft. They can get one later to compete with Fernando Bryant and Brandon Meriweather for Starting LCB/Nickelback. It's doubtful the Pats would use #7 overall on a cornerback.
- Inside Linebacker - the hardest position to project and there aren't many of these guys in the draft this year. Jerod Mayo from Tennesee is one who has gotten some mention has having Pats potential.
