After listening to Brett Favre's statement about "retiring early", it was obvious how clueless he is.

He seems to think that this is just a situation between two parties (him and the Green Bay Packers).

What he fails to appreciate is that there's a significant 3rd and 4th party. They are the fans and then the rest of the public.

Wasn't it former tennis great Andre Aggasiz who said, "Image is everything"?

Favre just doesn't understand this point. He also doesn't understand the tremendous implications of the Packers giving him his release. There is no NFL team that wants Favre released, because it sets the incredibly dangerous precedent of a disgruntled player "retiring" to get out of his contract, and then "unretiring" before the next season even begins in order to become a free agent.

A lot has been said about Brett Favre's decision to "un-retire". Unfortunately, Green Bay Packers' management has been receiving most of the criticism.

It's unfair. 

Here's the real heart of the matter. Favre signed a contract during the offseason in March 2001 for a 10-year extension. So, he took the money and now has to honor his contract.

If any of us were in the Packers' front office, we wouldn't grant Favre his release for several reasons.

1)  there's no guarantee about Aaron Rodgers. He may turn into an elite quarterback, but he hasn't proven anything yet. The Packers are still in the business of winning games, and would you rather have Brett Favre as a fantastic backup plan or some no-name QB who has only played a handful of games?

It’s terrible being a Green Bay Packers’ fan right now. You have a region divided by those who want Brett Favre to return and those who want to give Aaron Rodgers a chance to be the starting quarterback.

Read that last sentence carefully. There’s not a single Packers’ fan who does not want Brett Favre to return. However, there’s a large percentage of fans who feel that a sense of fair play is in order.

Aaron Rodgers has been the quiet backup for Favre for the past 3 seasons. By all accounts he has a great arm which can lengthen the Packers offense.

No matter which side you stand on, it’s not easy. Brett Favre has done more for the Packers than any other player for that franchise whose last name isn’t Starr.

How To Interpret The Rich Rodriguez – University of Michigan Fiasco

After a difficult offseason for former West Virginia University (WVU) football coach Rich Rodriguez, the dust finally appears to have settled.

To summarize the situation, Rodriguez was one year into a lucrative new multi-year contract with WVU. He has brought the program from a good football program that padded its win-loss percentage by playing inferior teams to a team that earned its share of the national spotlight. He knew it, the WVU Board of Trustees know it, and so do the WVU fans.

The other thing the WVU Board of Trustees and the fans know is that replacing Rodriguez will be a near impossibility.

At the end of last season, Michigan officials engaged in illegal contact with Rodriguez about not honoring his contract with WVU and jumping ship to Michigan.
