Here we go again posted on 11/12/2008

well it seems that the injury plague has hit the Pats again, with Adalius going down for maybe the year.  seems like another opportunity for a younger, less experienced player to jump in and see how he can do.  Pierre Woods and Gary Guyton would seem to be the guys to fill the spot.  it always sucks when you lose a player of Adalius' talent, but having these inexperienced players getting this shot to play has only got to improve the team in the coming years. not to say that this year is a loss, although I did think that earlier in the season, I think the chances of the Pats realisticaly goin far in the playoffs is not that likely.  every injury thus far has opened up playing time for some rookies that at the beginning of the year you would not have thought they would even be a factor.  this will only improve the Pats chances next season and for seasons beyond that. with Tom struggling with the infection and the chance he may not be 100% at the beginning of next season the Pats should sign Cassel for next year. He has improved every week and would be far ahead of anyone that they could either bring in next year, or if O'Connel was the #2 qb.  the Pats may have to factor in a quality backup qb next season.  it seems that Tedy's snaps have decreased this year and having other linebackers get playing time is the best thing to happen to the defense this year. Tedy either retires or is a 1st and 2nd down player next year and Vrabel is not getting any younger of faster either.  it's tough to have 2 older/slower linebackers out on the field at the same time. between Mayo, Guyton and Woods, if they can keep up the level of performance the older Pats defense just got a lot younger/faster.  if Merriweather continues to improve and Wilhite and Wheatley can step up things on the defense could look good for many years to come.

A game to give fans some hope. posted on 10/22/2008
Monday night was definately a game for the patriots to build on.  great running game, good defensive effort, solid special teams and from the quarterback position a solid, not spectacular performance.  to many sacks, but a combination of some missed assignments and cassel holding on to the ball. my question is, does the o-line like cassel? after a few sacks it seemed to me that he was on the ground looking up at the lineman and no one offered him a hand up.  it has to be frustrating for the linemen to hold their blocks for an acceptable amount of time and still have cassel hold onto the ball and get sacked. but at the same time not all the sacks can be blamed solely on cassel, some are a combination and some are plain missed blocks, plenty of blame to go around. terribl

09 draft!!! posted on 10/14/2008

well maybe I am getting ahead of myself, but watching that game on sunday gave me very little confidence in the Pats defense. even with tom at qb, not sure if the defense could stop anyone, so all the games would have to be what 38-34 wins?  no pass rush, can't cover anyone, which is a byproduct of no pass rush.  what's the answer? i'm not sure, but what everyone has been saying, they need to get younger and faster, which i thought they addressed with the 08 draft, mayo, wheatley, crable, but is it too late to make a difference this year.  what's up with the defensive line, is it the fact that they are supposed to take up space and occupy bodies while the LB's take care of sacks and tackles, because if it is the backers aren't taking care of their job. i know thats the philosophy behind the 3-4 d, but it seems everytime i see tedy, he is chasing someone down from behind and not catching them. i no it's not a popular idea, but tedy should not be playing as much as he does. give crable a chance to get some experience, because if vrable and bruschi do come back next year, they are not going to get any younger of faster, so the defense will need to have some of the younger quicker players ready to step in and make an impact next year. we all know the d-line has talent and is relatively young, but if their job is to do what i mentioned before they need players behind them to do it. the secondary is a bit scary at this point. against jt o'sullivan they looked great, but if the pats want to survive past the first round of the playoffs in the years to come they need to pick someone who can cover alone on an island, and then the rest of the secondary improves by default.  ellis will always be a good second corner, but hasn't stepped up as a shutdown, and never may.  is wheatley that guy? is there someone in the next draft to take that spot, or free agency. something needs to be done before next year or it could be a tough season next year even if tom makes a full recovery and can play the whole year.  the belichick/pioli era has always been able to plug a hole, but haven't found that plug this year yet.  maybe a down year will be beneficial on the long term. giving some of the young kids experience and a better draft position. hate to say it, and maybe we shouldn't jump off the bridge yet, but sunday showed a lot of holes that are exposed against to top teams.

game 1 ALCS posted on 10/10/2008
Game 1 of the ALCS and as a RedSox fan we can all only hope the Dice-K shows up with his good stuff tonite and not his struggle through 5plus innings and 100 plus pitches. He has shown a little bit of being able to last through 7 innings, maybe 1 or 2 times this year, and you have to wonder if he can do it once or twice why not more. You really have the feeling watching him pitch that you would just wish he would throw it over the plate and let them hit it to someone instead of walking 2 an inning and throwing 30 or so pitches an inning.  He has a good defense behind him and really has to learn to pitch to contact. I know they say he never gives in and his opp/ba when men are on base is incredible, but maybe if he didn't have men on base so often he would be albe to go further in

My first blog posted on 10/10/2008
Hello New England Patriot fans and all NFL fans reading this.  this is my first entry here and wanted to share some thoughts on the Pats.  going in to SD this sunday night, will truly be the 1st test of the season for the new look patriots. they have gotten their bye week over with and are now playing a top level team in the AFC, i know their are people who will say the chargers aren't doing well, but there is no way the chargers won't be there in the end, you all know that. the AFC west is terrible and the chargers always seem to start slow and finish strong. Cassel looks more comfortable and the D played better against a mediocre niners offense, so look for them to prove whether or not they are for real this week against philip rivers and LT. if they show up this sunday and bea
